PASTORAL PRAYER: JUNE 7, 2020

Lord, we are constantly reminded through Your Word

that there is no place where You are not with us.

We know there is no moment that is too scary to feel Your presence.

We know we are never alone.

We celebrate that there is no business, no hospital room, no airplane,

or no street corner that is too dark for You.

And so God, we ask for Your forgiveness

when we miss Your presence

and cling to the shadows instead of Your truth.

Forgive us when we choose to worry,

instead of trusting in who You are

and the help, safety, comfort, and hope You offer.

Today, we find ourselves in very unfamiliar, uncomfortable territory –

strangers without knowing exactly what to do

and how to maneuver through this time.

As heightened of a season that this has been,

and may continue to be,

we ask for an abundance of Your peace.

While it may be easy to cling onto the anxiety and fear

of not knowing when the pandemic will subside

or how justice will prevail,

Lord, let us choose to look to You –

relying on who You are and Your unchanging nature.

Allow for us to bring to You

our feelings and anxiety surrounding this time,

and to lay them before You.

We pray that You will meet each and every one of us

where we are and see us through.

Show us how best to love our neighbor and how to love them well.

Help us to be disciples capable of standing strong in these moments.

Hold our hands as we navigate the culture and society around us

and seek to be the source of revival and change.

When we are confronted with the darkness of this world,

help us to be Your agents of light.

Open our eyes to see Your light in all places, and find Your strength in it.

We ask that You be patient with us,

while all the while spurring us on toward holiness and perfection.

You call us to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You.

Turn our small steps into giant leaps,

as we learn to give all, risk all, and trust all.

We are learning that Your comfort, Your assuredness, and Your peace are not fleeting,

no matter how hesitant our steps may be.

As we struggle to learn that we should never fear the dark,

make our hearts bold and courageous.

Your Grace is abundantly enough to pierce through the darkest of nights,

and it is what we seek through our prayers.

As the psalmist proclaims,

Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in Him and He will act.
Be still before the Lord, and wait for Him patiently. Fret not, fret not.

Lord, we commit this desire of bold trust and mighty heart to You.

We trust You. We are listening to You. We are following You. Hear this prayer. And hear these words You taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
